We are also looking into funding the following CHF approved studies that affect
Schipperkes:
Endocrine Disorders - Thyroid Hormone Concentration variations with stage of
canine estrous cycle. With the increasing number of hypothyroid dogs being detected
it is important to know what is normal. There are fluctuations with the estrus cycle.
Right now the recommendation is just not to test bitches while they are in estrus.
What about the one that comes in 2 days after you send in the sample? Or the one
who has prolonged estrus?
Reproduction - Search for genes related to cryptorchidism. This is a big problem
in many breeds. It is not simple (similar to epilepsy?) - there are many forms of the
problem from no testicles actually exist, to retained in abdomen, to retained high in
flank, to bouncing from scrotum to high in flank.
Eye Disease - Post cataract removal capsular opacification problem study.
